Light Up Gibson Park

Stage 1 in Operation

Stage 1 of the new lighting is now in operation on Wednesday 2nd May.

Although a lot of people have been involved in this project the club would especially like to thank and acknowledge the work of Steve Honey and Micheal Grew in bringing it to fruition. Over the past couple of years Steve has taken the lead in instigating the project, building support, applying for grants and funding and coordinating design and building work. More recently Michael has provided valuable assistance in obtaining funding and construction approvals from the City Council.

Work Starts

The first stage of the club's Light Up Gibson Park project has started with the arrival first lighting towers. Fabricated in China the poles will be errected on the next few weeks and be positioned on he western side of the football fields.

The Club has initiated a project to improve the lighting at Gibson Park.

Our long term aim is to have at least the grounds lit to match standard. Last year we were able to secure a $115,000 Government Grant through the Community Building Partnership scheme and although that will go a long way toward improving the lighting it is not enough for us to reach our target. The club will be initiating further fund raising activities to allow the continuation of the lighting upgrade. These activities will be advised in this page.

Children's Poetry Book

Kathleen Hewes will be taking orders for a Kids poetry book by her sister and brother-in-law. The books can be bought or ordered on 'meet the coach' afternoons and also at home small sided games and possibly some other games too. There are 2 books.  The first a soft cover (waterproof) for $15 and the new release is in hard cover and costs $20, $5 from each book sold will go to the club's Light Up Gibson Park fund. Details of the books can be found at:

How can you help

Like the Children's Poerty Book above similar fund raising activities can contribute to the lighting fund. If you have ideas for a fund raiser or would like to assist in some other way let us know.

Sponsorship is also an option we would be happy to discuss.

Please contact the club Secretary or Light Up Program Coordinator if you can help in any way.
