The Season in Review
Welcome to junior sport. I have thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. As I’m writing this before our grand final whatever the result, we have had a great year. To have 16 players come together and all play their own special part is a great compliment to them. I’ve made heaps of mistakes and have had terrific input and advice from many parents. Some positional advice has been spot on. With 16 players, rotating through the subs has been our biggest challenge. Michael was terrific in this area watching the clock and play to try and make it a fair go for all. Michael has been a huge help this season. The boys have really enjoyed it when he’s been able to make it .We have swapped plenty of ideas. Even if I’ve woken you during my day (your night) your support and help has been unreal. Finally when Robbie came to play I not only got Robbie. I needed a manager and we were very lucky that Fiona took on the job. Match reports, team sheets, phone calls, injury updates, shirts, cards. Thank you very much Fiona. You allowed Michael and I time to do our thing. Thank you.
Player Profiles
THE BEATTIE BOYS,the twins ,the reds , the brothers , no matter which way you look at them they are hard to split. Infectiously enthusiastic great team players with speed and skill to burn Joel and Marcus are a massive boost to our team. By playing Marcus at striker and Joel in the backs we had the pitch covered. Neither liked to be subbed for more than 30 seconds an absolute pleasure to coach and an even greater pleasure to watch them play.
CONNOR BIRCH Connor has been in my teams for 7 years and his focus this year has been first class , with the help of Coerver and a fresh attitude Connor managed to bag a couple of beaut goals this season . Connor has really matured this season and I hope he is part of our team for many more seasons.
THOMAS COWEN The best phone call I’ll make this year Judy. Tom has given his all in every game this season knows when to step it up, had a great game in the major semi. A change of position to bring him closer to the action has been good for Tom and our team tightening up the midfield which is so important in soccer. Watch him go next year when he starts using both feet thanks Tom.
AARON DARK Ah coaches son, I thought it was a myth. Its taken Aaron quite a while getting used to Dad being coach. In the last month or so has slowly been getting back to where Chris had him last season. Loves the competition Aaron takes it very serious always up for a kick, one afternoon trained with Sam, Stan’s U12s and then the U15s. Aaron really enjoys his soccer and the teammates he plays with our debriefs can last for hours. Aaron held his own and relished the opportunity to play with the U12s firsts a couple of times this season .
SAM GIBBS, Slammin Sammy Mr versatile, there aren’t many players who can play from the forward line to the goal mouth very athletic Sam is a great teammate to have on you’re side . Took up the challenge of keeping this year when we were short and took to it with great enthusiasm doing extra training midweek.Broken arm or not Sam’s always up for a game which is what all coaches like to see. Would like to see Sam try out for keeper with Orlando next season.
TOM GOODIER Ah the phantom , produced an absolute screamer left foot goal mid season . All the boys enjoy training and playing with Tom. Gives his all on field and trains well.Tom’s ball control has improved this season .Tom plays for the fun of having a game with his mates.
ORLANDO HAYES Alonso is one of our keepers and totally unflappable does everything with a minimum of fuss a very imposing presence in goal. Had an outstanding game in the major semi stopping several raids and giving us good field position with his punts from goal Orlando is our quiet achiever.
JESSE JONES The longer the season has gone the more Jesse has enjoyed his soccer. Quiet yet really competitive Jesse has been a real help at training demonstrating plenty of Coerver moves. Jesse has a great boot on him developed through plenty of practice his corner kicks are brilliant and his positional play second to none.
LACHLAN McKINNON C’mon Lochie not one my best trainers he would be the first to admit that but he’s always there , well liked by his teammates Lochie revels in a team environment. Contributed more on field this year Lachlan has always given his absolute best on field for his teammates saved our bacon in the major semi with a beautifully timed clearing kick. In the last month or so has trained much better, keep at it Lochie have a kick over summer I’m sure mum n dad have a fence or two you could kick over.
JOEL MOORE The first time I saw Joel play I thought he could read the game years above his maturity always in the right place at the right time making the right decisions.I still think that, but I don’t think he realized how good he was himself. As the seasons gone on he is starting to realize his talent, the sweeper position suits his game perfectly. Always good for a laugh, Joel took more bark off himself this year than the entire team. Seeing as though you always thank me for training Joel thank you for a great season.
BRAD STRUDWICK I must admit there were times throughout the season where I struggled to stimulate Brad at training, not to keen on drills but loves games the more intense the better. Brads abilities can blow me away scored a swag of goals this season better still set up twice as many. Reads the game brilliantly with boundless energy. I’ve watched Brad play since he was 5 when he just toyed with oppositions and kicked those jaw dropping goals, he’s still doing it.
JEREMY TADROSS One of if not my best trainer. Like Aaron last year has really stepped up and worked hard on his game. Always at training and always giving his best. Jeremy has worked on his strengths, is very tenatious and has no problem tackling bigger players I would like to see him down at Gibson park over summer kicking the ball at the wall and trying to knock it over.
TOM WALKER Here comes walker would be the call Id look round and here comes Tom looking like a split watermelon and that was just for training which he rarely missed. Tom has improved his game in all areas this seasons .If you ask him I was worried about him breaking a leg or ankle the way he tackled not any more I think we’ve nailed that one. Toms ball control has also improved bagged a few goals this year and can call Aaron or Connor any time for a kick over summer.
MELIH YILMAZ Hey Hey its Saturday Melih hasn’t been able to make it to training many times this season but when he did really enjoyed himself loved our Friday night games against the U15 girls team. I was really pleased that all the boys accepted that he couldn’t get to training yet treated him as another teammate on game day. Melih has been a real asset to our team blessed with great ball skills .In the last month has put on some great passes for Marcus and Brad played excellently in the major semi .A really polite and well mannered young man Melih is a tribute to his parents.
ROBBIE GYNGELL Rob came to us after a couple of rounds keen to play and I’m really glad he did Rob had really matured gone was the worm (a move he used to do after anyone scored.) replaced with controlled aggression perfect for a fullback fast, big and aggressive Rob is yet to achieve his full potential he will be awesome and I look forward to see him reach that potential keep at it Rob.
