Round 16 - At Home to West Illawarra
Thirroul Thunder put the cat amongst the pigeons with an outstanding defensive display to carve out a deserved 2-0 victory over high lying Wests in the Illawarra Credit Union District League.
Ben French put the Thunder 2 up after 25 minutes with two well taken strikes from the edge of the box. Thirroul were in control, playing some excellent attacking football. Wests had their chance to pull one back when they were awarded a penalty but were denied by a great save from Thirroul keeper James Terry.
The game then changed dramatically with the send off of Thunder defender Alex Thompson for an accidental hand ball on the goal line. Again Wests missed the spot kick and so began an outstanding 10 man defensive display by Thirroul.
Daniel Catlin and James Terry were defiant with outstanding support given by Josh Biddulph, Matt Cochrane and new signing Nick Beeton.
Thirroul showed a lot of heart in this performance and Wests will now be looking nervously over their shoulder at the Thunder who are 3 points behind and firmly established in the top 4.
