The 'Bowlo', our major sponsor, was packed after the first grade Thunder team scored its first victory of the season in the competition proper. The monkey was off our backs so to speak so now we can relax and play the exciting and attacking football that we know we can play. After a tense first half against a well drilled and determined Shell City team we hit the front with a well taken first goal from Shane Mulholland; the result of some good lead up play. Shell City replied with a dubious penalty only to see Garth Bowley give us a 2-1 lead shortly after with a precise low shot from 20 metres out. The rest of the game saw the Thunder well on top with Alex Thompson making sure of the victory with a volley that nearly broke the onion bag. Our second half performance was excellent and showed that when we play well we are a match for any team in this competition. Defensively we were strong with Josh Biddulph giving a typical 'Arsenal' performance. Serhat Pakyuz worked tirelessly in midfield with Ben French showing his potential with another 'Man of the Match' award. This week we should be at full strength and welcome back Craig Chapman and Mat Batley to the squad. Congratulations go to the Youth team for their second victory; well done boys. I am looking for more outstanding performances from the Youth grade because we have to select the squad for the Bert Bampton Knock Out soon; a chance to play with some of the first graders who are still under 23. Michael Davey has been appointed as assistant first team coach, welcome to the club Michael and all the best. The reserve grade's fortunes will probably take a more positive direction under 'Peeno's' direction, so here is the challenge reserve grade, let's see if we can get our first point of the season, your second half performance last Saturday was excellent. On a final note it is great that we have a victory song BUT PLEASE we need a melody!

The newspaper headline said it all...'Thirroul's Golden Run Comes To An End'. Our historic first home game and we save our poorest performance of the season so far for this occasion. However, heaps of praise must go to all those who organised the day for that was a huge success. It was disappointing to see the first and reserve grade teams lose; we know we can play better and hopefully we will make amends this week. The reserves should have all hands back on deck and so an improved performance is anticipated. Well done Youth Grade on winning your first point, although, we need to put our chances away. Let's see if we can match the success off the field with success on the field.
Thirroul Thunder began its competitive history with a well earned point away at Wests on Easter Friday. The sense of history was not lost on the first grade with player representative and our first official club signing, Garth Bowley scoring an excellent glancing header from a pin-point Alex Thompson cross just before half time. The Thunder was certainly not overawed by the big spending Wests with the defensive wall of Mat Batley and Daniel Catlin playing the Wests star premier league recruit out of the game. We looked solid in defense and dangerous on the break. James Terry starred with some excellent saves with Josh Biddulph and Mat Cochrane keeping the Wests wide men at bay. Our midfield capably led by a cool Scott Penfold and with the industry of Serhat Pakyuz and Paul Thompson constantly threatened the Wests defense with probing runs and fine ball skills. Up front our young striker, baby-faced Ben French played a mature game with his discipline an inspiration to all. In fact, late in the game, the Thunder could and should, have snatched a late winner with two breaks; unfortunately,we were unable get the ball into the net. Andrew Bradshaw came on late in the game and certainly made his presence felt. If this is the type of performance we can expect from the Thunder each week then it will be an interesting and successful season, for Wests are favourites for the title, and while the score may have been a fair result, the Thunder has announced its presence in thunderous terms. Quite a few clubs might leave future games a little Thunderstruck. Next week we play co-title favourites Berkeley at our first home game. Can we repeat this performance? Having already lost 3-1 to Berkeley in the CLKO, we need to show the same amount of desire, discipline, teamwork and skill as we did against Wests. Congratulations must go to Mat Batley for his Player of the Match performance. Well done boys a great team and squad effort.
Honourable mention must be made of the excellent performances by our Youth Grade and Reserve Grade teams. A number of the Youth Graders very capably backed up for the Reserves. Thanks guys well done. This is the kind of attitude that will make our club strong and successful. The Reserves played very intelligently and with more match practice and fitness can only get better. Congratulations to Mason Jones for his man of the match performance, he is certainly knocking on the door for first grade. Also Brent Frost pulled off some great saves showing that he is more than a capable deputy for first grade goalkeeper.

Dear Secretary
As a life member of Thirroul Junior Football Club I would like to congratulate you and the committee for the fantastic effort you have all put in over the past years. I am 100% sure that all the hard work you have done over the years has benefited the Club, the players, the parents and anyone else that may have come into contact with the committee and the club. It’s a great club.
My wife and I attended the launch of the Thirroul Thunder on Saturday evening and it was great to see so many happy positive people and past and present players gathered in the same room.
I wish you the committee and all players every success for now and in the future, I am looking forward to attending both Junior and Senior games throughout the coming season.
