THIRROUL THUNDER
Reserve Grade Round 4 - Saturday 25 April
Won 2 - 1
With the First and Youth Grades taking a break before their competition kicks off our focus this week is on the Reserve Grade, playing in the First Division competition. In the three rounds of the first division to date the Reserves have an equally mixed bag of results (win, draw and loss). Today's win should put them into the top half of the competition and continuation of this form will see the team well placed for the end of season play offs.
The match started with a minutes silence in honour of ANZAC Day. The first half proved to be a very even affairs as both teams moved the ball around probing the defences for the initial break. For the Thunder Garth Bowley and Shiraf Mozarafi were constantly testing the Kemblawarra defence while at the back the defenders were working well to limit the opposition's chances. In particular stand-in keeper Luke Meusberger was showing great composure. The teams went to the break even 0 - 0.
The second half was a continuation of the first as both teams played fast open football searching for a break that would lead to the first goal. Eventually, about three-quarters of the way through the match, a break down the left side led to Garth Bowley slotting away the Thunder's first goal. Not long after Tom King made a good break down the right only to be brough down just outside the box. The resulting free kick was crossed into the box and well met by Shiraf Mozarafi who put away the second goal. Despite a late lapse allowing Kemblawarra to get a goal back the team held on for a deserved 2 - 1 win.
