District League Round 18

The bad weather this season has had one benefit as the Thunder finished the season at home in the deferred Round 18 matches against Corrimal. A loss in Youth Grade, who seemed flat after a great effort against Balgownie last week, was the only blemish on the day. Despite the loss Youth Grade finished the season in second place as did Reserve Grade, they both will play at Memorial Park, Corrimal next Saturday in the Qualifying Semi-Finals.

District League Round 22

Despite the weather the Thunder managed to take the field at Judy Masters Field against Balgownie. For the Thunder it was a mixed day. Although First Grade went down a win to Reserve Grade and draw for Youth Grade saw them secure second place in their competitions. The final round, the deferred matches against Corrimal will be played at home next week - if the rain stays away.

First Grade lost 2 - 5
Reserve Grade won 1 - 0
Youth Grade drew 3 - 3

District League Round 21

With a lucky break in the weather the Thunder played host to Wests Illawarra in the third last round of the season, while the Amateurs and Gibson Park Rangers had their last home games as well. For the Thunder it was a successful day with wins in all grades. The Amateurs were unlucky going down to Jamberoo.

For more on their match click here or on the photo above.

There was a big turnout for the local derby against Woonon and the canteen had a very good day. On the field it was not such a good day for the Thunder as all three grades lost. First Grade fought hard and were unlucky not to get at least a point going down 1 - 2. Reserve Grade were never in the match going down 0 - 7. Youth grade were also unlucky, playing well but without luck, going down by a single goal 0 - 1.

The Thunder's day summed up - a lot of effort but no luck

This week the Thunder hosted University in the second of the cross-over rounds and the Amateurs shared the day, unfortunately, the news is nearly all bad. First Grade seemed out of sorts but worked hard to hold University for most of the match only to concede two late goals. Reserve Grade played well but without luck and also lost by two goals. Youth Grade were outclassed by University going down by five goals.
In the Amateurs Thunder 2nd Division were also unlucky not to share the honours with the Bumble Bees going down 2 - 1.

District League Round 5

In contact to last week there was a shortage of goals and players this week as tough opponents kept the scoring down and injury and the extra long weekend reduced the ranks. However the Thunder maintained its unbeaten record across all grades, in 15 matches we have 13 wins and 2 draws.

First Grade dropped their first point for the season when, in a tough match they were held to 1 - 1 by Kemblawarra. Click here or on the picture below, for match photos
Reserve Grade responded well to the pressure put on them and in an identical result to Youth Grade were 1 - 1 at half time and ran out winners 2 - 1. Click here or on the picture below, for match photos.
Youth Grade were in fine form and should have racked up a healthy lead, but were frustrated by a fine performance by the Kemblawarra keeper. At half time it was even at 1 - 1 and a single second half goal decided the match for the Thunder 2 - 1. Click here or on the picture below, for match photos

Amateur's Round 1 Postponed

Unfortunately with all the rain on Monday the councils cannot put up the goalposts at a lot of the grounds. Also teams are finding it hard to get grounds marked. For these reasons Rd 1 has been postponed. At this stage Rd 1 will be played on the spare weekend at the end of the season(Sat 27th August).

Light Up Gibson Park

Even though we were very successful with our bid to the Building Community Partnerships scheme, the cost of bringing Gibson Park up to night match standard is going to take a lot more money. Go to the Light Up Gibson Park page to what fund raising activities are taking place, or make a contribution.

Club awarded $115,000

The club's application for funding under the Building Community Partnerships scheme has been overwhelmingly successful. The results have been announced on local member Paul McLeay's web site. The club has been awarded $115,000, that will go a long way to getting the lighting on the football fields at Gibson Park up to match standard.
The club would like to thank everyone who voted for the club's submission and especially our organiser Steve Honey.
