2010 Bonnie Lassie Cup

The Bonnie Lassie Cup was held yesterday at Ocean Park, Woonona. The Thunderbirds were represented by two squads the combined First and Reserve grade as Thirroul 1 and the combined 3rd and 4th Teams as Thirroul 2.

Thirroul 1 had a great day. After an early setback losing their first match to University 1, they went on to win their remaining pool matches with some style and then beat Kemblawarra 3 - 1 in the quarter final and University 2 on penalties 3 - 0, after drawing 1 - 1 in the semi-final. They eventually went down to University 1 again (0 - 2) in the Grand Final - a great effort on the day.

Thirroul 2 unfortunately had a horror draw being put up against much stronger and fitter teams and bowed out after the round robin matches. Still despite the tough matches there was much to be pleased with. The girls saw out each match and never gave up trying and the form of newcomers Kirsty Lunney, Isis Joyce and Clare Ward was a revelation. On the down side Kayla Anderson suffered a serious knee injury while filling in as goalie - we wish her a speedy recovery.
