Round 9

Balgownie 1 Thirroul 1.

On a day better suited to indoor sports we made the short trip to a cold and slippery Judy Masters (outside) oval for the mid table battle. Coach Sam was looking for a result to keep in touch with the leading teams and everyone was keen for a run after 2 weeks off. The first half was an arm wrestle with Bally having the better of play ( slipping and sliding better than the Thunderbirds) and looking the more likely to score. We looked disjointed in attack and were not playing with enough urgency in Ballys half. Danica, Mikeala and Porter all had good chances saved and with Sharon and Gloria doing a great job anchoring the center of defence a 0-0 half time score was looking very likely until we switched off and allowed a shot to be taken just outside of our 18yrd box without any competition to open the scoring for Bally. With the correspondent having to leave the game at 1/2 time Nellie said after the game that the team picked up the pace and played much better in the second half with Porter scoring a sensational goal (she is making a habit of this - particularly when the Thunderbirds 1sts coach is at the game ! ) to split the points.By all accounts this was a fair result for both teams in a game which was played competitively yet in a friendly spirit. Well done Thunderbirds 2.

Round 6

The team continued it recent run of good form with a 4 - 0 win.
Goal
Goal No 4 is on its way to the back of the net - for more pictures from the game click here.

Round 3

Dandaloo (2)  4 def Thirroul 1

On a windy and soggy Webb Park the first half was all Dandaloo who went to the 1/2 time break with a match winning 4 nil lead which was a fair reflection of their dominance. The second half saw Thirroul (2) play much better football with Porter pulling one back after some sustained attack. This caused Dandaloo to sit back and allow us to play some good football with Danica, Nellie and Laura all prominent but unable to find the back of the net. If only games were played over the second half!

Round 2

Thirroul 5 def Helensburgh (2)  0

The score doesn't quite tell the full story of this game against 9 players.  With a lot of space available the 1st half saw Thirroul 2 play into the oppositions hands by not using the full field. With the majority of possession, field position and clear chances running the blue and white way Thirroul 2 went into half time with a comfortable 2- 0 lead. The second half saw Thirroul 2 play a full field game, move the Burgh around the ground and make the best use of their numbers by adding another 3 goals. Porters first half goal and a sensational strike from Nellie in second half couldn't be separated as the goal of the day. Good games from Alex and Emma with Mikeala playing strongly.

Master Builders Competition

Round 1
The IWFA Master Builders Competition kicked off this weekend. The 2nd Division team played South Coast United at Sir Ian McLennan Oval, result and match report.

South Coast United 3  drew with Thirroul 3

The one that got away from Thirroul 2 with the end result being a fair indication of the game. Thirroul 2 took a 3 nil lead into the second half after 3 great team goals finished by Danica. However South Coast pulled back 3 goals to ensure an exciting finish. Thirroul 2 had the better chances with Porter going oh so close twice in the dying minutes of the game. Coach Sam was very happy with the teams first half performance but lamented the fact that we couldn't close the game down after being up by 3. Danica, Alex, Iris and Gloria were the standouts today.

2nd Division Team

Our 2nd Division squad sees some experienced players combine with a largely youth team of 2008 Thirroul and Coledale Juniors.

Association Cup - Round 1

Thirroul (2)  0 - Helensburgh (1)  3

Not a fair indication of the closeness of this game with the Burgh running away with it in the back end half of the second half. With the majority of the game being played between the 18yrd lines neither side dominated in the first half. In the second half we created some great chances but were unable to finish off in front of goal. The Burghs 3 goals came after we were caught square at the back leaving Porter exposed to one on one strikes. Mikeala, Lucy and Sharon played well all game with Porter putting her body on the line in goals.
